Lunch & Dessert

Open Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 am–6:00 pm, Call ahead at (506) 2268-1335 to reserve a table for larger groups.

Our Concept

Simply put: fresh comfort food. The kind of meal your grandmother would have made. Delicious, uncomplicated, prepared from scratch and made with love. In fact many of the dishes we serve are taken from old family recipes shared by our staff, just presented in a fresh way.

On the menu are hearty slow-cooked stews, farm-to-table salads, and an array of hot sandwiches made with fresh bread and served with familiar sides like deli-style coleslaw or home fries. We also have dishes to share, like empanadas (turnovers) or a classic French-style cheese plate featuring your choice of local artisan cheeses as well as imported favorites.

Make sure to save room for dessert. This is, after all, a chocolate workshop.

Dive into the layer of dark chocolate ganache on top of our New-York-style vanilla bean cheesecake or our homemade coffee ice-cream melting over a warm fudge brownie. Or try some lighter options like "Pudding and Pie," our version of a trifle with layers of shortbread and custard, passion fruit gelée and fresh strawberries.

Details

Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are available on the menu. If you would like to pre-order lunch as part of your visit to our workshop and chocolate tour, please request a sample menu by email. Planning lunch for a large group? Directions

Following are the general directions to our worshop, tour and garden café in San Isidro de Heredia:

From Downtown San Jose’s main thoroughfare Avenida Segunda, turn left after the National Theater (Calle 5) and head north until the road ends at Avenida 11. Turn left and continue for 200 meters. Take the first right at the stoplight. Follow this road straight to a large intersection and entrance to Highway 32 (also called the Guapiles Highway). After passing the intersection continue straight for 20 minutes until you reach the San Isidro exit. Turn left and then take an immediate right onto a small road running parallel to the highway. Once you make this turn, you will see warehouses on your left and the first signs to Sibú Chocolate and Café ahead of you. Follow this road for 1.5 kilometers past the guardhouse until reaching Calle Bombacho. Veer right and continue for 200 meters until you see the entrance to Sibú Chocolate on your right. Welcome!

From Alajuela or Juan Santamaria International Airport: The easiest and perhaps the most scenic way to get to us is to take Highway 1 (also called the Pan America Highway) directly into San Jose (about 15 minutes). You will automatically connect with this highway as you exit the airport. When you get to the end of the highway, turn left at the second stoplight and follow the road into the downtown area (about 10 minutes). From downtown, you cannot miss the National Theater (Calle 5) on the left side of the main thoroughfare Avenida Segunda. From here, follow the directions above from downtown San Jose.

From Downtown Heredia: Take Avenida 6 heading east until the road ends at the stoplight. Turn left and keep right passing one stop light. Turn right after Burger King (Road 112) and follow until the road ends at Casona de Mi Tierra Restaurant. Turn left, following the winding mountain road for about 15 minutes all the way to San Isidro de Heredia (keep left at all times). When the road comes to an end, turn left and continue 200 meters until reaching a flashing yellow stoplight. Turn right and follow this road for about seven minutes past San Josecito soccer field, always keeping left. This road will end at the entrance to highway 32 (also called the Guapiles Highway). At this intersection, look left and take the small road running parallel to the highway. You will begin to see signs to SIBU Chocolate and Cafe. Follow this road for one mile past the guardhouse until reaching Calle Bombacho. Veer right and continue for 200 meters until you find the entrance to Sibú Chocolate on your right. Welcome!

By Bus: If you don’t have a car, you can get up to one mile away from us by bus. That last mile is a 15 minute walk or three-minute taxi ride away. You will have to catch the San Isidro de Heredia bus at Calle 2, Avenida 7/9. Buses run every half hour on the 30 minute mark. Be sure to get on the bus that follows the highway route to San Isidro (marked X la pista). This bus will take about 30 minutes with multiple stops until turning off the highway at the San Isidro exit. This is your stop. In Spanish, this stop is called “la parada en el cruce de San Isidro”. There are often taxis waiting in this area, or call 2268-8991 for San Isidro taxis. If you prefer to walk, follow the signs marked SIBU leading you along a country road Called Calle Zurquí past the guardhouse and into our neighborhood. Our number is 2268-1335.
